This Remembrance Day, communities throughout the Niagara Region are gathering to honor the service and sacrifice of Canada’s veterans. From solemn ceremonies at local cenotaphs to parades and memorial events, here are some of the ways you can pay tribute on Monday, November 11th.
Grimsby
- Location: Cenotaph beside the Grimsby Museum, 6 Murray St.
- Time: 10:45 a.m.
Join the Grimsby community at the cenotaph near the museum for a traditional Remembrance Day ceremony led by the Royal Canadian Legion, Grimsby Branch 127.
Lincoln
- Location: Cenotaph at Jacob Beam School, 4300 William St., Beamsville
- Time: 11 a.m. (Veterans march at 10:45 a.m.)
The Beamsville Branch 612 will host a ceremony honoring local veterans, beginning with a march to the cenotaph.
Jordan Station (Lincoln)
- Location: Cenotaph at Jordan Lion's Park, 2769 Fourth Ave., Jordan Station
- Time: Friday, November 8, at 11 a.m. (Veterans march at 10:45 a.m.)
Although this ceremony takes place a few days before Remembrance Day, it provides an opportunity to honor veterans in Lincoln.
Niagara Falls
- Fairview Cemetery Cenotaph
- Location: Beside the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, 4501 Stanley Ave.
- Time: 10:45 a.m.
Head to Fairview Cemetery in Niagara Falls to join in a respectful tribute to fallen soldiers.
Pelham
- Location: Veterans Park, 141 Hwy. 20 E, Fonthill
- Time: 10:40 a.m.
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 613 hosts a gathering at Veterans Park in Pelham, allowing the community to come together in remembrance.
St. Catharines
Downtown Cenotaph
- Location: Memorial Park, 6 St. Paul St. W
- Gathering: 10 a.m. at City Hall (50 Church St.)
- Parade: 10:30 a.m., followed by the ceremony at the cenotaph at 10:45 a.m.
St. Catharines Branch 24 organizes a march and wreath-laying, culminating at Memorial Park for the main ceremony.
Merritton Cenotaph
- Location: Memorial Park, Merritt Street and Walnut Street
- Time: 11 a.m.
Veterans gather at the Merritton Legion before marching to the cenotaph.
Thorold
- Location: Cenotaph at Memorial Park, Corner of Albert St. E and Chapel St. S
- Time: 10:20 a.m. to noon (Includes parade)
The Thorold community will gather for a moving ceremony with a parade led by the Royal Canadian Legion, Thorold Branch 17.
Welland
- Location: Chippawa Park, Welland Crowland War Memorial, 128 Fitch St.
- Time: 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Join the Welland community in honoring veterans at the Chippawa Park cenotaph for a ceremony commemorating their sacrifices.
West Lincoln
- Location: Cenotaph, 172 St. Catharines St., Smithville
- Time: 10 a.m.
The Royal Canadian Legion, Smithville Branch 393, hosts a ceremony at the cenotaph to bring the community together in remembrance.
